List For Ideas on Zodiac Flowers

Aries

Alstroemerias, also known as Peruvian Lilies or Lilies of the Incas, are native to South America. They come in fiery colors like red, pink, orange, and yellow. Alstroemerias symbolize friendship, love, strength, and devotion. The meaning behind alstroemeria comes from the six petals of the flower, each representing a characteristic that matches those of the ram: understanding, humor, patience, empathy, commitment, and respect. The twisted leaves of the alstroemeria also symbolize bonding, stability, and overcoming difficulties together.

Alstroemerias also represent mutual support and the ability to help each other through life. Aries are known for their fiery passion, not only for life but for the people they choose to surround them. Aries will go to bat for their friends with no hesitation, and there’s no other flower that says “I would back you up in a bar fight,” quite like alstroemerias.

Taurus

Snapdragon flowers get their name because they are shaped like little dragon snouts. Native to the United States, North Africa, and Europe, these flowers come in a variety of colors such as yellow, peach, pink, orange, purple, red, white, and multicolor. Snapdragons are also really cool because when they die, their petals wilt and create a skull shape. Because they are able to grow in rocky, typically uninhabitable areas, the flower tends to represent strength through adversity, similar to how the bull represents Taurus. Both people born under this star sign and snapdragon flowers are so stubborn that they will flourish in rocky areas to prove they can.

In the Middle Ages, women weaved this flower on their hair to convey the message that they were not interested in any ‘unwanted attention’ from men. The direct communication of the flower screams earth sign that knows what they want and, more importantly, knows what they don’t want. A Taurus may be picky about who they let into their inner circle, like how snapdragons are picky about their pollinators. Bumblebees are the only insects strong enough to open a snapdragon flower and pollinate.

Gemini

Ranunculus flowers are big, showy, Persian buttercups. What starts as claw-shaped corms grow into soft and layered flowers that come in various colors, including pink, red, orange, and peach. The delicate layers give the flower a rose-like appearance, making it popular for weddings and other romantic events. While roses and ranunculus aren’t exactly twins, they do a good job representing the celestial twin air sign.

Geminis have a duality to them that gets an unfair reputation as being two-faced. Like the ranunculus flowers, Gemini’s have a showy personality and aren’t afraid to hide their beauty or their opinions. Ranunculus flowers often symbolize charm and attractiveness; traits Geminis have in abundance.

Cancer

Water Lilies, of course, represent this water sign to a T. These flowers live in waterbeds; with round, wax-coated leaves and strong stalks that arise from the water, these lilies seem to float effortlessly. Similar to Cancers, water lilies can only carry on this illusion of serene floating if they have a strong base too. Water lilies provide food for fish and wildlife, but if they get too big, they can cause drainage problems.

Like Cancer, water lilies love to provide, but it can backfire if they get too big for their britches. Cancers are known for being emotional, nurturing, and highly intuitive but can be sensitive as well as insecure. Water lilies symbolize innocence, hope, rebirth, and peace.

Leo

Tulips are a hard type of flower to categorize. There are over 150 species of tulips with 3000 different varieties, and each color of tulip means something different. For example, yellow tulips symbolize cheerfulness and hope, while red tulips mean passion.

However, the most well-known symbol is that tulips symbolize deep love. They are the best flower to give to someone you have unconditional love for, whether that relationship is romantic, familial, platonic or something in between. This makes tulips the best flower to go with a Leo’s personality. Leos are bold people most known for being loving and compassionate with a big heart. The same characteristics that make Leos natural leaders are the ones that connect them to the bright, bold tulip.

Virgo

Orchids, the oldest flower known to man, best go with the personality of a Virgo. The most highly coveted ornamental plants, the orchid represents love, luxury, beauty, and strength. Orchids like Virgos are finicky in what environment they thrive, need to be warm to function, and will not open up except for particular circumstances. Virgos are logical, practical, and systematic in how they approach things. Virgos are perfectionists and like to be in control. Orchids have a history of being believed to control fate. In ancient Greece, it was believed that  if the father of their unborn child ate a large orchid, the baby would be a boy, and if the mother ate a small orchid, the child would be born a girl.

Libras

Hydrangeas come in all colors, and it depends on the season. In the early season, hydrangeas are red, pink, purple, white, green, and blue. In the later seasons, they will bloom in green, red, and brown hues. They’re capable of flourishing in most circumstances, don’t like direct sunlight, and don’t need much care. Like the self-confident libra, hydrangeas don’t need to rely on much to flourish.

Libras thrive on being orderly and making sure things are aesthetically pleasing. The sign is represented by scales, which explains their fixation on balance and harmony. And hydrangeas represent harmony, grace, and beauty, making them perfect for any Libra.

Scorpio

Classically beautiful but thorny and dangerous if you’re not careful, the rose is the perfect flower to describe Scorpios. Scorpios have a tough exterior, like a thorn to a rose. Scorpios have powerful personalities that underneath are highly emotional and crave intimacy. Red roses are known globally as the most romantic flower, the one that says “I love you,” but different colors can have different meanings as well. For example, pink and peach roses symbolize gratitude.

Sagittarius

Decumaria, also known as woodvamps, are flowering plants that climb tall trees. Native to the southeastern United States, the plant produces aerial roots that shoot upwards, and the plant itself can grow up to 30 feet. This plant is reminiscent of the roaming Sagittarius, always on a plane ready to explore the skies. Sagittarius values independence and adventure. They are risk takers that do first and think later. And that is why their personality is best described by a flowering plant that defies gravity and expectations on how a flower should grow.

Capricorns

The delphinium, or larkspur, is a towering bunch of blue and purple flowers. Mostly seen in English cottage gardens and frequently used in florists’ bouquets for its height and vivid blues and purples. Native Americans in the west coast used the flowers to create blue and purple dyes. Capricorns are known for being ambitious, persistent, and practical. This makes them perfect personality matches for the tall flowers that ambitious reach to the skies and can be used in practical ways such as making dyes.

Irises are native all over the world, from Europe to the Middle East, northern Africa, Asia, and North America. They range in size from 8” to 36” high, and come in a variety of colors such as purple, yellow, orange, blue, or white. Because they can grow in different temperate zones, many different cultures worldwide have given meaning to the Iris. The most common symbolism is that irises symbolize wisdom, trust, and valor. Like the smart and advanced Aquarian, these flowers are self-reliant and clever, allowing them to bloom almost anywhere.

Pisces

Chionodoxa, known as glory-of-the-snow because of how early they bloom, grows from a bulb and produces blue star-shaped flowers with white centers. The flowers grow in dozens on each spike. Chionodoxa are native to the mountains of southwestern Turkey where it grows at the snowline above 8,250 feet. Like Pisces, these flowers bloom in the earliest of springtimes, sometimes when snow is still on the ground. Pisces are known for being creative, thoughtful, and well attuned to their surroundings. Similarly chionodoxa flowers understand and work with their surroundings, even if they happen to be snowy.
