Description

Parodia leninghausii is a beautiful cactus with erect stems with about 30 ribs lined with areoles that bear numerous gentle, golden yellow spines. The stems grow up to 3.3 feet tall and 4.8 inches in diameter, clustering from the base. They are globular at first, becoming columnar with age. The flowers are yellow, up to 2 inches in diameter, and appear in clusters at the top of mature stems in spring and summer.

Size:
2.5 inch pot diameter

Care Instructions:
Parodias do not like direct sunlight and are accustomed to more water than many other cacti species. However, the cactus mustn't be exposed to prolonged dampness and sitting water. To encourage better flowering, allow the plants to enjoy a cooling period in the winter and dramatically cut back watering. Unlike other cacti species, however, you don't need to stop watering entirely. Make sure to fertilize during the growing season for the best results. Requires well-draining soil that allows roots to grow and air to circulate. A hole in the bottom of the pot is highly recommended to allow excess water to escape. USDA hardiness zones 9b to 11b: from 25 °F to 50 °F.

Propagation:
Parodias can be propagated easily from offsets, which readily form in clusters around the base of the mother plant. Parodias are also relatively easy to grow from seeds.
